A Shaker Seat

A great thing about living in Lincoln County is we are less than 30 minutes from an old Shaker Community known as Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill.  The Shakers were renowned for their woodworking and in particular, their chairs.  It is a pleasure to make the scenic drive to examine and study their work, as the Village has many original pieces on display.  The piece above really caught my eye due to its craftsmanship and style.  The Shakers in this area used cherry wood extensively due to its abundance and availability.  I plan to return to the Village soon, take better notes on this piece, and attempt a reproduction.  Until then, enjoy viewing this piece of art.
